How Do Your Genes Fit?

There is no bigger struggle than finding the perfect jeans! As much as I love wearing jeans, shopping for a new pair is something that I absolutely dread. Finding for the perfect shade of denim, perfect cut and perfect deal can be easily to accomplished when the jeans are still on the rack; trying them on and them fitting perfectly is nearly impossible. Due to my curves, I  will find most times the fit will be great, but the waist will be too big or my butt will look awesome but the length will be too short.

I find that I am not the only one with this problem. Many other women I know have this same denim struggle, yet rather than blaming it on the jean makers, we tend to put our bodies at fault. Regardless of shape and size, from thin to full-figured, we all fall into this trap. "If only my thighs weren't so big...", "If my butt were smaller..", "If only my legs were not so skinny...", these are among the many things we say after failing at finding the right pair.

Searching for jeans can put a damper on our self-esteem and cause us to feel less confident about the way we feel and look, but it does not have to. Here are some tips I use when going on a denim hunt:

1) Try places who have a variety of fits for different contours. This will allow you to find what cut works for your body type. Also, do not only stick with the type that describes your body shape because it may not work for you. Be open to trying others and you may be suprised at which ones fit you best!
*Joe's, Express and Old Navy are among the stores you can find with these options.

2) Be prepared for a long day. It's not always an easy task finding the jeans, so it may turn into a whole day adventure, but keep that in mind and go forward with a positive attitude. Take a break to grab a bite and get back to it.

3) Don't give up!! It may seem like you're having more losses than victories, but recognize that your body was created perfectly the way it is, so it's not you that needs to change. Change your mindset around it, confess it verbally and you are bound to feel much better about yourself and the experience. Happy shopping!

Look on the Bright Side!

Waking up to the beautiful California sunshine over the past few days has been great! Seeing the bright sun and blue skies always puts me in a better mood. However, you don't have to depend on the weather this spring to take advantage of feeling great, just add it to your wardrobe! Its true, wearing bright colors is indeed a way to enhance your mood. From bright yellows and oranges, to bright pinks and blues, they each have a different effect on you as well as the people you come in contact with. This is usually not something your cognizant of, still you can begin to recognize the difference color creates. Now this does not mean to begin to fill your closet with matching bright suits, however by adding even small pops of color, as with your accessories, can help. Here are a few characteristics and examples of this season's hottest color trends:

Yellow: attention grabber, optimistic, inspiring

Orange: bold, energizing

Pink: romantic, happiness, calming

Blue: relaxing, serene

Purple: creative, royalty, sophistication

So next time you're in an especially great (or not so great) mood, take a moment to see what colors you're wearing as well as the colors surrounding you... you might surprise yourself!

Retail Therapy

Have you ever decided to splurge on something, to either reward yourself for achieving something or to make up for a crappy day? I know I'm guilty for sure. I'm always looking for a reason to shop. If I aced a test or failed to meet my quota at work, I'm going to celebrate by buying something special for myself. Whether it be those earrings I'd been wanting or a handbag I had my eye on, I will walk out with a smile on my face regardless. I'm sure we've all had a moment like this at one time or another, but who knew it was actually healthy?!

Shopping on impulse actually releases dopamine, a neurotransmitter that controls the brain's sense of movement as well as pleasure and reward. Lack of dopamine can cause depression, as well lead to Parkinson's disease. So when you do find that exclusive item, it's only natural for you to feel good about your purchase! But of course, too much of a good thing can be bad for you, so be careful. Dopamine is also related to addiction, and no one wants to become an impulsive shopping addict with no control over their spending. Therefore reward yourself, as well as your brain, and buy yourself a little something every once in a while!

Lip Service

I have never been a big fan of lipstick. The women who I saw wear it didn't seem to make it appealing. Either they had more on their teeth than their lips, or they had not quite learned how to stay within the lines. Not to mention the fact that the first was created from the crushing of insects. Yes that's right, women like Cleopatra would smash beetles to extract carmine, a bright red pigment, and use it on their lips. Gross right? From this experience I've usually been opposed, but I am so happy that I have found an alternative! I was going to be attending a black and white soiree and wanted to add a pop of color to my ensemble. So I went to the MAC counter to begin my endeavor of getting red hot lips, without a lipstick. To my surprise, there are several different lip glosses that can give you the same boldness of color as you would get with a lipstick!

As some of you may know, looking for the perfect red can be difficult but, I found one I love; "Russian Red" by MAC! It works on several complexions and goes on seamlessly. With one coat you'll be set for a night out! For something a little more fun, try a fuchsia like "Giggle" lip enamel by Stila. Applying lip gloss is a quick and easy way to look and feel good about yourself, so go out and find one that works for you!

Words of the wise...

Fashion is always of the time in which you live. It is not something standing alone. But the grand problem, the most important problem, is to rejeuvenate women. To make women look young. Then their outlook changes. They feel more joyous.

Can You Dig It?

Spring is here and I am loving this season's 70s inspired trend! Many designers, like Marc Jacobs' ready to wear collection, showcased this trend during fashion week. Everything from the bell bottoms to flowing maxis, to bold prints and chunky platforms.

The 1970s was a period of peace and standing up for what you believe in. Whether it be anti-war or feminism, the clothing of the time reflected just that. The bold colors and flowing materials were directly representative of the state of mind the people were in during that time. I constantly look forward to this trend coming back around because of the free-spirited era the style stemmed from. Peace and love, how can you go wrong with that? The 70s trend has continued to make its way back in the spotlight. Here are some of my favorite pieces for the spring/summer 2011 season.

The Beginning

I’ve gone through my years at San Francisco State believing I would come out on track to becoming a world renown psychologist. I always pictured myself having a fierce office wardrobe; consisting of Prada suits, several Hermes bags, and various Louboutin and YSL pumps. Clearly my focus was off! I have now discovered that my heart also lies in the land of fashion. Everything from trends to accessories; to runway shows and makeup application! Flair Logic is where the proposed shrink meets fashion and finds her voice, giving you the latest fashion and beauty scoop.

Welcome!
